Individual therapy is a critical component of addiction and mental health treatment.

Using techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy, we help you find solutions to the core issues that drive substance use. Through one-on-one therapies delivered in-office or from the comfort of your home, we help you face and modify destructive thought patterns so you can discover an abundant, sober, and happy life.

Individual therapy is also effective in treating co-occurring mental health conditions, such as depression or anxiety. These conditions feed alcohol and other drug use, making the recovery process even more complicated. We know that there is a solution, and our qualified therapists address both issues at once with dual diagnosis treatment.

Individual therapy can help you work past the issues that drive mental health issues, such as:

  • Everyday stress from home, work or school
  • Trauma or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Family of origin issues
  • Grief and loss
  • Destructive thought patterns
  • Unhealthy relationships

Through individual therapy delivered online or in-person, we help you develop the skills to stay centered no matter the circumstance. Our therapists understand the value of self-care and healthy coping skills, and we place these at the center of the patient experience. Together, we can help you discover a path to healing and restoration.

How Does Therapy Help?

According to the National Institute of Mental Health, more than 21 million American adults struggle with a substance use disorder every year, and roughly a quarter of American adults experience mental health complications. Others need help coping with relationship troubles, the death of a loved one, loss of a job, trauma or stress.

Mental health issues are common, and you are not alone. Finding therapies tailored to your unique life experience, age, gender and profession is critical to recovery. We pride ourselves in crafting personalized treatment for our patients, making sure that all their unique concerns are addressed.

Individual therapy can improve your life by helping you:

  • Understand thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that contribute to substance use
  • Learn how to replace negative behaviors with healthier habits
  • Identify life events or problems such as family stress, a hectic lifestyle, job loss or divorce and understand how they affect you mentally and emotionally
  • Pinpoint old thought patterns and discover new ones
  • Regain the sense of abundance and happiness that is lost during addiction
  • Learn healthy coping skills to alleviate the pain caused by co-occurring mental health disorders

Types of Individual Therapies Offered

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) helps people with mental conditions identify and change perceptions that have them stuck in unhealthy patterns of behavior. We help direct your attention to new ways of thinking and help you challenge the incorrect assumptions you make about yourself or others.

Cognitive-behavioral therapy can help people who:

  • Think and behave in ways that disrupt their life
  • Suffer from anxiety and/or depression
  • Find themselves in unhealthy relationships
  • Have trouble falling asleep
  • Obsess over ideas, events or feelings

Trauma Therapies

Trauma-informed care is a key component of our treatment model, and we are passionate about helping people with trauma and PTSD recover. If you have past trauma you would like to address, our therapists offer Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), an interactive therapy technique used to relieve psychological stress.

Trauma therapies are helpful for those who:

  • Have experience with emotional, physical or sexual abuse
  • Need help regaining a sense of safety
  • Have difficulty sleeping or experience night terrors
  • Want to improve how they relate to themselves and others

Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is a form of talk therapy that can help you cope with, and change, unhealthy behaviors. This therapy focuses on mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, distress tolerance and regulation of emotions, among other things.

This therapy may be helpful for those who:

  • Have difficulty regulating their emotions
  • Want to change negative thinking patterns
  • Struggle with “black and white” or “all or nothing” thinking
  • Need help overcoming substance use or a personality disorder

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational interviewing is a therapeutic technique that helps people find the internal motivation they need to change their behavior. It is a practical, compassionate and short-duration form of therapy that takes into consideration how difficult it is to make life changes—especially when those changes involve deep-seated behaviors. Motivational interviewing can serve as a powerful tool on your path to healing.

This technique may be helpful for those who:

  • Feel ambivalent about change
  • Need support to address unhealthy thoughts and behaviors
  • Struggle with substance use disorders
  • Are treatment resistant

Life Skills

In order to recover from addiction and other mental health disorders, a person must develop personal responsibility and develop new life skills that support wellness. Our therapists understand the importance of helping you develop the social and emotional skills that will help you to thrive.

This focus in therapy can support those who:

  • Have difficulty overcoming real-life barriers to recovery
  • Need help maintaining social responsibilities
  • Want to discover new ways of coping with stress
  • Desire accountability to stay away from unhealthy relationships or behaviors

While recovery from drugs and alcohol can seem impossible, we know that there is a solution. Our team provides renowned clinical care for addiction—and our Admissions Specialists are standing by to help. Call us today.
